Surveys
The Hedge Man can undertake hedgerow surveys, and organise tree or ecological surveys in support of development plans and planning applications.
We are familiar with all relevant legislation and the surveys required ensuring that any development is completed within the law and in compliance with environmental guidelines for sustainable development.
Surveys of hedgerows, urban trees, ancient or veteran trees within a parish, district or council can provide very useful information for local authority planners and ecologists; or for local landowners, wildlife trusts or other environmental bodies. The Hedge Man can complete local surveys using standardised methodologies or modified survey methods to suit local needs and available resources.
The Hedge Man works closely with Chris Britt, of Britt Vegetation Management. www.bvm-vegetation.co.uk Chris was the principle researcher for the Trees in Towns 2 national tree survey, and was a key member of teams that developed the hedgerow survey methodologies incorporated into the Hedgerows Regulations 1993 and the new Hedgerow Survey Handbook (Defra/BAP Steering Group, 2007). Chris was also one of the authors of Hedgerow Management and Wildlife (Defra, 2006).
