Welcome

The Hedge Man specialises in hedge laying and hedge restoration, and is a member of the National Hedgelaying Society.

Hedgerows are a very prominent, functional and important landscape feature in the UK and The Hedge Man will help to keep it that way by providing services to maintain them at their optimum potential for landscape and environmental value.

We work with a broad range of clients including the agricultural sector, landowners and residential property owners, development sites, charitable bodies – in fact anyone with hedges to maintain in good condition and in perpetuity. New work often features as Case Studies on the site - these will give useful information on the kind of work undertaken, and 'before' and 'after' photographs and comment. The scrolling Latest News also aims to keep casual visitors to the site, and serious enquirers, informed of current activities.

We look forward to hearing from you.

UPDATE  JANUARY 2012

Still very mild and it doesnt feel like winter but work continues and new jobs are being started within the next few weeks: hedgerow restoration work for Yorkshire Wildlife Trust at their Brockadale Reserve, laying a hawthorn hedge for a domestic client in East Yorkshire, planting a holly hedge, and some advisory visits concerning the condition and status of some hedges in the York area.

Plants have been late entering dormancy, and some species for planting are in short supply due to nursery stock being lost last winter in very different conditions to this year.

I have found one newly started blackbirds nest ! In the past I have always checked for nesting birds in every month except January, as a few years ago I found a pigeons nest with one well-grown chick in November and a blackbirds nest with eggs in early February..... I will now check every month.

All new enquiries are welcome, and there is space in the diary for work from mid February onwards. Written quotations given now will be honored through to the end of 2012.

Inspection of the fruit trees and orchards pruned last winter or in the spring show very positive results. I can inspect and advise at any time of the year on fruit tree pruning requirements.

Do contact me, Allan Roberts, with any questions or requirements, on 07930 90 46 17 or email me from the contacts page. All enquiries will be dealt with promptly.

Thank you to old and new customers and general visitors to the site and best wishes for the year ahead. I look forward to hearing from you - email correspondence always welcome.
